~Trendy Mondays ~ Virtual Wedding Guests!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningSocial media has taken sharing to another level with people constantly updating their statuses, tweeting and uploading pictures.

Technology is definitely the future; playing a huge role in helping couples share their special day with loved ones around the world. This year is set to see an increase in ‘Live-stream weddings’ as the service becomes more popular.

No one has to miss out anymore.  Whether someone is ill or unable to fly in, it’s no longer an excuse for them not to join in.  Miles apart yet connected with front row access from the comfort of your own home and no expenses! (As long as you have Internet that is!)

Broadcasting your event couldn’t be easier with platforms such as Skype, Google Hangouts or Facetime

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Alternatively, you can use professional services such as Live-streaming Weddings, Marry me Live and I Do Stream who offer packages for guests to log on and watch, and even replay at a later date.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Prices will vary from company to company and the package you choose.  It is also dependent on whether you have your own equipment and how much tech support you require.

Most couples are not even aware of this option and it definitely opens doors for who you can include on your guestlist!

Happy Planning Ladies + Gents!

~Trendy Mondays~ Interactive Food Stations!

With everyone being on trend nowadays through the influence of social media and exposure to fantastic ideas, is it enough to just have good caterers?  For some the traditional three-course sit down meal is fine and a lovely option for your wedding lunch or dinner.  After all good cuisine speaks for itself!

For the more experimental and quirky types however, we would like to welcome you to a plethora of aesthetically pleasing and entertaining ways to serve your food.  The groom might well take an interest in this aspect of the planning too, as they say ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!’  If not for the main part of your reception then consider it as a late night option for the after-party perhaps.

From varied presentation to the interactive bars that are becoming more and more popular, feast your eyes on these ideas.  Mini versions of anything are so cute and a tasty mouthful!

Smores Stations!

Popcorn Stations!

Kitchener Wedding Planning Planner Kitchener Wedding Planning Planner Kitchener Wedding Planning Planner

The main purpose of "food stations" is to have the guests freely mix and mingle while getting their food!  Sampling the different options that you have laid out for them in a relaxed environment and not restricting them to "waiting it out" until their table number is called will be well received by your guests!  Setting up a lounge type reception space with a few cocktail style tables and some couches will only enhance the concept of the food stations.  We're getting hungy just thinking about all the possibilities!  Here are some more ideas to tempt your palette!

The possibilities are endless with the types of food stations that can be incorporated into your big day....Do any of these strike a chord???

Taco Bar ~ Drinks Bar ~ Mashed Potato Bar ~ International Cuisine Stations ~ Waffle Bar ~ Hot Chocolate Station ~ Seafood Bar ~ Mac + Cheese Station...................and the list goes on!

We recommend you entertain this option for your reception as it can be a cost saving decision depending on the number of options you choose.  This brilliant alternative to the traditional dinner service allows for your guests to try things they otherwise may not have tasted.  They can get adventurous and go outside their comfort zone!

We hope we have sparked a little inspiration in your reception planning!  This is a fun and different option that you can personalize to you!

Happy Planning!

Inspiration Fridays ~ Destination Weddings!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningFor all types of couples, a destination wedding is becoming the popular option to tie the knot. What is better than having your nuptials in an exotic location at potentially a lesser cost than a traditional wedding affair, right?!

An intimate wedding with your nearest and dearest with a lot less stress involved. There is a place for every style and budget from gorgeous sunny beach weddings to beautiful mountain tops to places like Europe!  The world is your oyster!

We are sharing some tips today to help you decide whether Destination is the option for you!

How about a little French Polynesia????? .......My oh my does that sound amazing!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Or some mountain scenery?

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

A little Paris maybe?  Oui, Oui!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Or is a grand majestic castle on the list of contenders?

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Now here are some tips to begin planning your destination wedding away!

  1. Although you won't have a huge guest list, it is still wise to have a tentative headcount when choosing your destination + venue.
  2. Plan in advance, especially if you want to block, book and get discounted rates at resorts.
  3. Ensure all those invited have valid passports + vacation time.  It is wise to put as much detail on your Save-the-dates as possible so they can arrange themselves to participate.  You wouldn't want one of your bridal party to not be able to attend!
  4. Two-in-one!  The wedding is likely to be at a romantic getaway so why not stay and have your honeymoon there too?  For most of your guests it is probably also a vacation opportunity so make the most of "holiday-ing" with your friends + family and stay a little longer!
  5. Research the weather of your destination to prevent any surprises.  Definitely choose your wedding attire accordingly.
  6. Know and become familiar with the laws and legal requirements of getting married in the chosen country.
  7. Use recommended + reputable vendors only!  If you are not able to fly out and do a little reconnaisance yourselves then perhaps see if there is an event coordinator included in your wedding package that can do the leg work and get feedback to you.
  8. Do not check-in anything you will want on the big day.... carry-on with you just in case.
  9. Your guests' attendance is a gift in itself, so perhaps don't have a gift registry.  Also be considerate of your guests varying budgets and provide options!  As a gesture why not throw a Welcome dinner to thank them!
  10. If you can afford it, use a wedding planner who specializes in destination weddings.  They are more likely to know the ins and outs of getting married abroad and will know vendors etc.. to ensure a smooth running event!

Happy Planning!

Tip Tuesday ~ For the Groom!

As soon as you utter the words "engaged" - from that point on it seems to be ALL ABOUT THE BRIDE!!! Well today we're not going to talk about the "girls".  It's all about the "Groom + his boys" today!

Gentlemen, despite what you may hear, you are part of the wedding too.  You can be as involved as you want to be.  Here are a few things that you can be responsible for in the planning process, not just the engagement ring!

First of all, as a couple - choose the wedding date.  It could be something symbolic like the anniversary of your first date, or the day that you met for the first time.  Choose something special to the both of you!   You may need to consider "special guest" conflicts as well.  For those that you would really like to attend.  Try to stay away from holidays if you can... especially religious ones.  Which season you would like to have your wedding is just as important.  Weather can affect your wedding's style + location.  It can set the mood for the celebrations so you need to think carefully.

Second, you need to select a venue for your celebrations.  A lot of places get booked up very quickly so you need to make this one of your top "to-do" list items.  You may be quite surprised that you choose something that you never thought you would!  You need to consider whether you want the ceremony + reception to be in the same place or you are okay with separate locations.  How many guests you plan to have will definitely dictate where your celebrations will be!  Do you want a traditional venue or are you looking to get away from the normal choices and want a unique venue?

It's time to select your entourage!  Who is going to stand up with you and be part of your big day?  There are the usual suspects... brothers, close cousins, friends... and don't forget the bride's brother!  But before you make your decision, consider the size of the wedding and the person's ability to commit to the task of being a Groomsman.

Can he afford it?  Is he a gentleman?  Does he have the time?  Can you imagine your wedding without him?  May sound silly but you don't just want to choose someone to even up the count.

(Being the Groom is shaping up to be quite the job!!!!)

Now for the part where you can shine and fully take the reigns - choosing the Band/DJ.  When it comes to choosing a band for you reception, always make sure you are able to see + hear them play before you decide.   As a general tip, bands will be more costly than a DJ would so you need to know your preference.  A good DJ will arrive early to setup and make sure that his equipment is placed out of the way of the podium, not blocking the view of the head table and has been tested for sound quality.  You don't want any of that loud shrieking feedback! Some helpful hints to consider... interview 3-4 vendors, ask if the DJ is familiar with your venue, how much experience do they have, what is their attire for the event and clarify the number of hours they will be there.  Dear Groom - you have quite the job on your hands as this is the one element that can make or break the wedding reception!  No pressure though!

This is just a sampling of how the groom can participate in the wedding planning process.  A lot more than you thought huh!  We were just getting warmed up!

More to come gentlemen!

Wedding Dreams Bridal Show - January 12-13, 2013

Better late than never!  We wanted to thank each and every bride + groom that stopped by to chat with us.  There were so many!  It was great hearing details of wedding planning that are already underway and what is yet to come.

It has been a busy week and a bit since the show but we still wanted to share our images of what the show was all about!

When brainstorming ideas for what our booth was going to look like, we received some inspiration from our good friends at Jodi Leigh Designs.  Thanks so much!

And the process begins..... the first thing that we did was to get out our No. 2 pencils and sketch out our vision... and here is what we came up with!

I think we hit the nail right on with this one!  We were very happy with the final result.  For those of you who know us, you know that we love being behind the camera so we took as many photos as we could (when we had a few seconds!) of this whirlwind of a weekend!

Enjoy everyone!!

~ Theme Thursdays ~ The Reception Lounge

The reception lounge is another trend predicted to be big in 2013.  It offers a space for guests to mingle, eat, kick back and relax. With a more informal feel, it provides the perfect setting for cocktails and finger food. You can create an ambience to suit your style; be adventurous and really get your guests to interact and make the night a memorable one. Be it indoors or outdoors there are so many designs to choose from. Why not break from the tradition of a sit down meal? At least you won’t have to deal with the stress of a seating chart. (We all know that’s a burden that we can do without!)

Here are some of our favourite lounge ideas taken from The Knot:

How about an outdoor mingling spot???

Whatever your style we're positive you will come up with an idea that you will be thrilled with!

~Theme Thursdays~ Bachelor Party Ideas!

It’s time to take the spotlight from the bride briefly and let the groom have his moment since he too is getting married!

Traditionally the best man gathers the groom’s closest friends for some male bonding and mayhem.  Remember to personalize get together to his tastes and come up with something unforgettable that he will enjoy.  As long as his buddies are there…..good times shall prevail!  Here are some different ideas for you to consider.

Night Out

Every guy will no doubt be thinking of The Hangover and the expectations of drinks, gambling and the like!  It works for some and if you have the budget, why not take that trip to Vegas and have yourselves some fun!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Host at home

Why not all crash at the best man’s house and make a weekend of it with a BBQ, beers and games.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Outdoor adventures

Book a cabin and go fishing for some fun on the lake.  A less expensive alternative is to go camping and maybe include some activities like canoeing or rafting.

Sports Outing

If the boys are into the sports scene, then maybe a private box at a baseball game would be the ticket.  For another action packed option, why not try paintballing!  Get all your frustrations out and have LOTS of fun!

~Tip Tuesdays~ Choosing your Wedding Cake!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningWow your guests with a delicious, beautiful and memorable cake cutting ceremony, ensuring it is something worth admiring and photographing!

The cake is one of "centres of attention" at the wedding reception (next to the bride and her dress of course!)  Make sure that you get exactly what you are looking by being very diligent in your selection.

The last thing you want is to have a dry, crumbly cake that tastes funny.

Here are some tips to help you in choosing your "Pièce de résistance"!!                        (in no particular order!)

~ one ~  Know your budget limitations.  Some brides will go with fake tiers for height in the hope of saving money but bare in mind that although some cake artists will charge you less for fake tiers some may not. This is because it takes as much time to put decor on a fake cake as it does a real one. Depending on your design. explore this option as if you have a plain tier in between, you could still make a saving!

~ two ~  Provide information about your décor, colours of the flowers and dresses, room shape, menu and running order of the day to your cake artist.  If you are leaning towards a custom cake, then the advantage will be yours if you allow yourself adequate time to choose your cake.

~ three ~  Check with your venue if there are any restrictions, for example some heritage sites do not allow chocolate or berries.

~ four ~  Choose a reputable cake artist.  Ask to see a portfolio of their work and if you have a style of cake in mind, find someone who can interpret your vision.

~ five ~  Consider shape, size (tier count), flavours, and temperature of the venue and try not to use perishable ingredients if the temperature will be an issue.  It has to taste as good as it looks so sample all flavours!  If you are having trouble deciding, perhaps you could try a different flavour for each tier?   Also, don’t forget about those guests with allergies!

~ six ~  Confirm who will be delivering and setting up your cake and at what approximate time.  You want it to arrive fresh and intact.   You don't want to see your cake sweating by the time you are ready to cut it!  Delivery + setup times can be communicated to your Wedding Planner as you are developing the timeline for the day.

A predicted trend for 2013 is shaping up to be along the lines of "classic vintage" inspired by satin materials and lots of icing!  Soft colours such as mint seem to be gaining popularity as well.

Now for some eye candy ladies!  Hopefully one of these beautiful creations guides you to your perfect wedding cake!

Theme Thursdays – Bridal Showers!

It’s time to treat the bride to a stress free day and celebrate ‘her’ before she becomes a missus!  Bridal showers are typically for friends and family of all ages to unite and have (innocent) fun; saving all the mischievous antics for her bachelorette away from grandma’s and the in-laws eyes!

As a guideline, these gatherings should be about four hours with enough time to eat, enjoy some activities and of course, open the presents!  Here are some ideas to entertain the taste of all brides:

For the foodie bride, have a brunch, dinner or tea party with a tasting element or interactive activity such as baking or making your own cocktails.

Revive the wedding entourage with a spa and beauty shower.  There are some great treatments to do at home, however for a more comfy and cozy touch, you can hire a masseuse and manicurist to the hostess’ home.  Another idea would be to have the guests bring "Spa-themed" gifts.  The bride I'm sure will love that!  As a thank you, the guests can leave the celebration with Spa treats of their own.

Style Wednesdays – Be the ‘mane’ attraction with beautiful hair on your big day!

You have the perfect dress, so it only makes sense to have gorgeous hair to go with it!  Here are some tips and ideas to make sure you look amazing from tip to toe.

Whether it’s you or a professional doing your hair, make sure you plan ahead. If you want a colour, perm or treatment do it a few months in advance to allow the style to soften and look more natural. You will also have time to fix it if it’s not exactly right!  You can also get a trim a few weeks before to neaten your locks and make sure there are no split ends.

Practice makes perfect so get your stylist to give you a trial and envision yourself as the bride. Bring your veil and any accessories/jewellery you will be wearing to the trial and get the full picture.  Whatever style you choose, make sure it’s comfortable and reflects your natural style. Last thing you want to do is go over the top or have a headache from having your hair pulled too tight!

Many brides are taking this opportunity change into a different dress for their reception.  Why not have a slightly different look for your party?  A little more fun and edgy?  Something that will go with your reception a little more!  It’s worth consideration.

How cute is this next one???!!!!

Whatever you decide be sure you are happy with the outcome!

Happy planning!

“I wanted timeless and ageless with something new about it. I don’t see the point of classic clothing that looks exactly like it did in every interpretation before. There must be an element of surprise, some sort of detail, something fresh and new about it.”
