Planning Your Honeymoon

Amidst all of the wedding planning details, one that needs to be considered is "where are we going for our honeymoon?"  Blindly picking a destination on the big old map just doesn't cut it!  This trip will be your first as a married couple and it will be worth the effort to find the perfect honeymoon destination you will love and remember!

Are you looking to relax on a warm, tropical, sandy beach? Are you wanting to do some sightseeing?  Or are you both the type to do something really adventurous??!!??  More and more couples are straying away from the traditional idea of what a honeymoon is supposed to be and making it more memorable for themselves.

Here are just a few tips to keep you on track when planning your honeymoon!

1. Discuss Budget

You have just had the most amazing wedding and now it's time to relax as husband and wife!  You don't have to break the bank to do it!  There are a number of ways to work within a tight budget when planning your trip.  For instance, travel in the "off season" when things are cheaper.  All inclusive locations generally are less expensive and have special rates you can take advantage of.  The benefit of doing the all inclusive is knowing the cost up front which will definitely make planning the honeymoon easier!  No hidden fees.  No surprises.  

We can't stress how important it is to have a budget when planning your honeymoon.  The last thing you want to endure is having arguments about money during the trip.   

2. Do your Research!

Beginning your honeymooon planning may seem like a daunting task but soon after you start, you will realize you only have a handful of options that fit your situation.  Your "research process" could begin midway through your wedding planning or if you are really proactive.... you could already have the hidden jar of cash under lock and key that is just for that relaxing piece of heaven at the end of this journey!  There are 2 ways you could approach this process - Use a travel agent or go full steam ahead and do the legwork yourself.  For those of you that don't have the luxury of time in your schedule... a travel agent may be your best bet.  For the ones that want to do it themselves, be thorough.  There are a lot of websites that help find you the best deals rather than go through directly to the source (ie: the cruise line).  

3. Narrow down your list

Based on what you are wanting to do on your honeymoon and what you've decided your intended budget is to be, you can begin to narrow down the list of potential destinations.  It is best to have 2 or 3 possible choices.  Even if you think one may be beyond your budget, keep it on your list... you might just be able to make the most exotic locations work for you!  Once you've narrowed your list down, the next step is too look into more detail as to what each choice has to offer.  Are there package deals available??  Off season rates? Does one choice have more activities to offer than another?  All things to consider to plan the perfect experience.

These are just a few tips to help you get started with planning your honeymoon.  Just as in planning your wedding, take the time and plan your honeymoon as well. It will be well worth it! You deserve that little reward after this journey!
