PRIYANKA + NICK'S WEDDING CELEBRATIONS - THE MEHENDI

We just absolutely LOVE Bollywood weddings! From fresh, fun and colourful to elegant classic beauty, Priyanka Chopra + Nick Jonas’ wedding celebrations were nothing short of spectacular. A combination of two cultures made this fete one that was meaningful to both bride and groom. Should it be any other way??

Since cultural weddings like this one are multi-day celebrations, we wanted to share the beauty in each one! The first event is called a Mehendi. This ceremony usually takes place a day or two before the wedding where all of the women in the bride and groom’s families, along with close friends, gather together while the bride has elaborate henna designs applied to her hands and feet. Guests will usually get a few designs on their hands as well. Beautiful intricate designs created by very talented artists. Typically an ladies affair, the trend has gone towards having a coed event with both the bride and groom’s family and friends. The more the merrier I say!! An immensely colourful event with lots of singing and dancing typically kicks off the wedding celebrations!

Wearing Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Priyanka and Nick looked like rockstars! They both were so happy they couldn’t stop smiling! Personally we are so in LOVE with her dress!!! Absolutely stunning and so much fun!!!

Hope you enjoyed!

Charlotte's Favourite Things! ~ Music !

Ever get goosebumps watching romantic movies where the happy couple dances the night away to some sappy love song? Me too! We would all love our lives to play out to an amazing playlist but sometimes that doesn't always happen. Well at least for your wedding day, it can be!

Since music is like a second language to me, I wanted to share some of my favourite love songs for you and your beloved to dance to on your special day!

If you're more of a modern bride and like to create some of your own traditions, then here is a quick list of some of the most romantic love songs of this generation.

"All Of Me" by John Legend could be the most popular love song of this past year and is a perfect example of his love for his one and only. This song is a pretty straight forward love letter to his wife explaining how love is an 'all or nothing' game. Through the good and the bad, J.L. has made it very clear that you should be in it for the long haul. We all have flaws and we all stumble every once in a while, the key is to find someone who will share those flaws and look at them as perfections instead.

Ms. Christina Perri wrote one of the most beautiful piano ballads of this past year, that makes me cry every time. "A Thousand Years" describes how scary it can be to fall in love, but if you're with the right person it can be the easiest thing you will ever do. Walking down the aisle to this song would be a dream!

"God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton is also a tear jerk-er as it was made for Mr. Shelton's beautiful fiance at the time, Miranda Lambert. She is actually in the beginning of the music video telling Blake how excited she is to get married to him in just a few hours... talk about adorable! This song is for the country-lovers out there who are eager to walk down the aisle to their best friend, confidante and true love with its beautifully romantic lyrics.

If you're more of a traditional bride and have always had a connection with the classics here are a few suggestions to incorporate the older romantics into your wedding day!  A timeless song that is the epitome of finding love is Etta James' "At Last". Mrs. James really knew how to capture the feeling of falling in love in this classic love song and really makes you feel like you're right there with her. Every time you listen to this song it's hard not to picture your loved one and imagine the bright future ahead of you both.

Can't help falling in love? Neither could Elvis! This soulful and delicate love song takes us all back to the first time we looked into your spouse's beautiful eyes and makes us feel all gooey inside. Why not feel that on your wedding day with this classic serenade by Mr. Presley himself.

Another traditional but never over-played song that brings us all back a few years is "L-O-V-E" by the famous Nat King Cole. This song perfectly describes how love puts a little 'pep-in-our-step'. It's hard not to tap your foot to this heart-filled ensemble as everyone around starts to feel the love too.

Whatever your choice of wedding song to dance to, make sure its describes how remarkable your person is to you. Sometimes we aren't so good with words so these songs can help you along with sharing your true commitment and love to your special someone.

Keep Up The Happy Planning!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Re-Used!

Some brides have this idea of keeping their wedding dresses for years later to either pass down to a loved one or to just keep in the closet for a rainy day. However, if you're not one of these brides and you don't necessarily have any interest in storing your dress for the years to come, keep on reading! We have some great ideas for you to keep the small memories of your beautiful dress without it taking up so much of our precious closet space ('cause let's be honest... we can never have enough! )

Since your wedding day was such a magical memory you will treasure forever, why not re-purpose it for the people you love? Some brides have taken their rainy Sunday afternoons to do a little crafting with their old wedding dresses by making them into blankets, or sheets for their future baby's room. Or even a beautiful dress or piece of clothing for you or your young one to wear.

If you are feeling extra creative you can even go as far as make your wedding gown into a beautiful cover for your baby's crib/ cradle. Precious is definitely the word to describe this idea!

If you're thinking of a way to re-purpose your dress that will last even longer in the family than a baby's crib, than how about make your gown into a few accent pillows, or maybe even getting them made into a bed set for you and your special someone! How romantic!

Pendants and necklaces are always a great way to go to carry a small part of that magical day with you everywhere, and this idea is easy to pass down to your kids one day instead of giving them the full burden of a dress.

Another wonderful idea if you are the festive type is to re-purpose your wedding gown into holiday decorations for that time of year! If you celebrate Christmas this is great idea for making stockings or a tree skirt out of your timeless dress.

Whatever idea you choose, it will feel amazing to always be reminded of that special day and to look back on those enchanting moments knowing that there are so many more to come!

Until Next Time,

Wedded Bliss on Canada Day!

Turns out our beloved National Hoilday is also an amazing day to celebrate your wedding!

There are so many holidays in the calendar year that people decide to have their celebration on, such as New Year's Eve or Halloween, but why not the day where we celebrate spreading the love to all other Canadians out there!

This day is filled with smiles and warm welcomes as we celebrate one more year being a beautiful country, so why not spread some MORE love with your friends and family.  Having a wedding on one of these joyous holidays always brings the ones you love even closer as you celebrate the lives you've created together and the wonderful memories to come :)

From the expert brides who have had their special day on Canada Day, here are a few ideas that they have used to combine two beautiful occassions!

Adding a POP of red into your decor always looks so rich and vibrant next to your gorgeous gown but also ties in the theme perfectly.

Another idea you can use is the simple touch of adding "Canada Day" decorations here and there so that they're still tying in the theme but isn't overwhleming or giving that "cheesy" feel.  This bride has added them to ther mini sliders for an appetizer!  The perfect touch!  Sooo cute!

Adding a vintage "Canada Day" into your save-the-dates can also help set the tone for the wedding.  This way your guests can look forward to this long weekend even more when they receive their invitations!

Even incorporating a red accent onto your dress looks absolutely stunning so you not only look amazing on your special day but you also have that unique touch to your wedding look!  For those of you that are bold enough.... why not a red dress!  Food for thought!

Here are some more visuals to get your in the mood!  It doesn't have to be the traditional red that accents your day it can be the other elements of Canada that will make your day yours :)

And finally... what's Canada Day Wedding without fireworks?

Have a FABULOUS Canada Day everyone!

Be Safe!!!

Wedding Hairstyles.... Do's & Don't's

Getting down to the smaller details of your wedding can be exciting, but even these smaller details need some thought to make sure your special day is as wonderful as you've always dreamed.

Admit it ladies... we have all had that dreaded "bad hair day".  Don't deny it!  You know it's true!  Don't let that be the case when it comes to your big day.  No need to worry, there are steps you can take to make sure you are 'picture perfect' for your wedding.

First and foremost... make sure you have a trial.

We can't stress how important it is to have a hair trial.  You get to see a 'glimpse' of what the end result will look like.  Who knows ... what you thought would look great when you walked in may end up not being what you choose.  Be open to suggestions.  Try a couple different looks and make sure you take pictures!  Have a friend or one of the ladies from your bridal party go with you to your hair trial.  They can snap photos of your different looks from all different angles so that you make sure every side is your best side:)  Also your "paparazzi's" snapshots willl help you remember what your hair looked like after you've left your appointment!

Remember to keep in mind the theme and style of your wedding and reception.  Bring a photo of your dress and ask the stylist to suggest something that would fall in line with that.  Be sure to bring any accessories you had planned to use and have them incorporated into the trial (ie: headband, brooches, veil etc...).  That way you get the 'full picture'!  It's a good idea to have your hair trial about 4-6 weeks before the big day.. that way there's still time to make adjustments and make a final decision.

What's in this season is very loose curls and loose up-do's! Having that very relaxed look to your hair is a style that you see all over the celebrity circuit.... so why not on your wedding day! This hairstyle keeps not only your look flawless but makes it look effortless as well!

Another beautiful up-do to try with your hairdresser is the side swept style! This style can either be done with all of your hair done up or with some hanging down oh-so elegantly!

If you find you have shorter hair and aren't able to put it all up try having your loose curls fall gracefully down the back! These loveable curls make anyone look amazing and give that finished look to any gown!

Some "don'ts" to keep in mind when choosing your wedding day hair include...

Don't assume your regular hairstylist is the best person to tackle your wedding day hair.  They may not be experienced in the area of wedding up-do's and such.  You may want to get referrals from "just married" friends or look online for those pros that can help you achieve your vision.

Don't forget about the neckline!  It is important to take into consideration your wedding gown/outfit when deciding your hairstyle.  You don't want to 'hide' that beautiful beaded work on the top part of your dress by draping long curls over it!  Consider having a half up half down look in that case... If your dress is strapless this would be an option as well to avoid feeling and looking too bare.  Some cultural wedding outfits are very ornate.... all over!  In that case, along with the accessories that usually accompany these beautiful gowns, you can get away with some work being 'covered'.

Don't assume you're speaking the same 'language'.  It's important to remember that what means something to you may not be interpreted that way to someone else.  "Sophistication" may mean separate things to you and your hairstylist.  We recommend that you bring 'images' to illustrate your vision.  Something tangible that the stylist can draw inspiration from and know exactly what you're looking for.

For those of you with shorter locks, have no fear!  Here are some gorgeous styles that will inspire you!  Accessories, whether it be stunning earrings, a blinged out headband or a delicate flower, play a key role in giving your look that extra 'umph' it may need!

Wedding Tradition or Superstition?

Ever wonder why it's bad luck to see the bride before the Big Day?  Here are a few answers to those wedding traditions and superstitions!

Let's start with the basics... have you ever wondered why your ring finger was always known as just that?  According to history, the Ancient Greeks were convinced that the ring finger was connected to your heart through a specific nerve.  This means that your heart will always be with this ring that your beloved has given to you. Pretty cool right?

Kitchener Wedding Planner  Kitchener Wedding Planner

What about seeing the bride before the special day? Believe it or not, this tradition was not always as romantic as it may seem today!  Back when arranged marriages were the only way of getting married to one another, the bride were to be kept almost a secret to ensure that the groom did not back out of the deal. If he were find out her identity or not find her attractive, the marriage could be tarnished and the 'business transaction', as it were to be known back then, would be off.

Kitchener Wedding Planner

Kitchener Wedding Planner Kitchener Wedding Planner

For those of you who dream about getting carried through your front door by your "knight in shining armour", this tradition actually started a long time ago within the Western European community.  The original idea was to carry the bride into their new home to ward off any evil spirits.  They also believed that the groom should carry the bride over the threshold to prevent the bride from tripping over the door into the new house, bringing bad luck into the home and marriage!  Interesting... I think I like the idea of being picked up after a long day of wearing heels, right ladies?

Kitchener Wedding Planner Kitchener Wedding Planner

Now as for other traditions, like taking the garter from the bride, this originally came from Medieval Times when there were to be a witness of the marriage. The witness would take the garter from the consummation of the wedding and show this as evidence that it actually happened. Nowadays, the groom is intended to take this from the bride but it seems that the tradition is still very much entertaining!  For some inspiration in this department try visiting Bridal Garters!

Ever heard that rain is seen as good luck for your wedding day?  This tradition sparked from the Hindu Religion as being good luck and a sign of a strong marriage. The reason for this came from the idea of trying to untie a wet knot and seeing that it was harder than untying a dry one. Seeing as how we use the term 'tying the knot' quite often, this tradition seems to be quite accurate.

Above all of these traditions that have been used for generations and generations, it is always nice to have those of your own! Traditions don't always have to 'foresee' your marital future but can bring loving families together! Besides, that's what wedding days are for!

Have Your Cake & Eat It Too!

So you've gotten an idea of how many of your friends and family are going to be attending your wedding celebrations and now it's time to move onto the next step... Feeding them all.

Kitchener Wedding Planner

Not only do you need to calculate how many meals you are going to need to provide but how much cake you want your guests to be able to indulge in as well.  Cake size can be up to you and your loving partner to see if you want to give everyone a slice or if it's just for those eager guests that can have first come first serve. To help you get started...click the link to view a simple Cake Serving Guide!

If you are looking to give all of your loved ones a piece of your beautiful cake, you are going to need a frame of reference as to how big of a cake you will need!

Kitchener Wedding Planner  Kitchener Wedding Planner

First things first, decide if you are having a round wedding cake or a square shaped one. Surprisingly this makes a difference with the amount of slices you will have. If you are choosing a round wedding cake it may give you less delicious slices than the square shaped size, but this is also dependent on the size of your family and friend group and how big of slices your guests prefer.

  Kitchener Wedding Planner

If you have a more intimate party you will need approximately a 6 to 8 inch round cake or cake tower to feed about 30 people. This will make sure that everyone attending your magical day will get to enjoy the dessert as much as they enjoyed the dinner!

Kitchener Wedding Planner  Kitchener Wedding Planner

If you have a slightly larger ceremony and are planning to feed a few more hungry mouths, a 10 to 12 inch round cake tower will feed around 40-60 guests. If you are partial to square cake towers, this size will feed approximately 50-70 people. Remember to consider how big you are cutting your sizes. A standard cake slice is 1 inch by 2 inches so make sure you are putting that into your vision of your perfect wedding cake.

Kitchener Wedding Planner  Kitchener Wedding Planner

What if you have a slightly LARGER party than this? Try looking at a 14 to 16 inch cake! With a round cake tower this size you can feed up to 100 guests! If you are just over that limit a 14 to 16 inch square shaped cake will deliver cake to about 130 guests, ensuring that everyone is happy with their scrumptious piece of heaven.

All of these cake sizes are some great head starts to figuring out the finishing touches on your special day. All you need to do next is find a baker that can make these dreams come true! Stay tuned to find out tips on how to cross that one off of your list as well!

"I'm Ready for my Close-up!" ~ Wedding Photography

Wondering where to cut back on some costs for your wedding? One suggestion is to not skip out on documenting your magical day.  Either with a professional photographer or videographer, you will be more than relieved that you have all of these wonderful memories saved for you and your loved ones.

Kitchener Wedding Planner

Professionals not only have a knack for finding those perfect moments between you and your partner but they have an excellent way of catching those candid moments of your family and friends!  Nothing is funnier than looking back on the celebration and seeing the memories that you may not have caught the first time.

Kitchener Wedding Planner

One thing to consider when shopping around for a photographer or videographer is seeing how quickly they have the footage done for you!  If it fits into your budget, see about same day photos or videos!  Some brides prefer to show the “behind-the-scenes” footage the same day during the reception.

A cute idea can be showing the footage of the bride and groom getting ready for the day with their wedding party!  You can ask for the photographer or videographer to create a certain type of mood to go along with this idea so you can have a more ‘funky’ and ‘comical’ vibe or more of a ‘touching’ and ‘sentimental’ feel to it!  Whatever you prefer!

Kitchener Wedding Planner

 Kitchener Wedding Planner

To the few brides that are lucky enough to have a friend or family member that can do this task for them, be sure to make clear what type of mood you are trying to capture! You want to make sure that taking all of that time to choose the theme for your wedding is not lost in the pictures or videos when you look back on them.

Kitchener Wedding Planner

Another thing to really be aware about is the pricing with photographers and videographers! Even though this will probably be a larger chunk of your budget it is well worth it in most cases! Just be sure that you are being smart with your selection… find the happy medium between paying a cheaper price for good quality and paying top dollar for something that you may think is overpriced. Remember, this is YOUR budget and you are the deciding factor!

Take a look at some more interesting and fun images that may spark some interest!

You know... rain isn't such a bad thing!  Some consider it good luck on your wedding day :)

“Will You Be My Bridesmaid?” ~ Choosing your Bridal Party!

Looking for a creative way to ask you darling friends to be a part of your special day? Here are a few ideas to spark that creative imagination so you can create the perfect gift for your girls.

Just for Me !!!???

First things first… be personal with your gifts!  There is nothing nicer than when a friend smiles because you know them better than they thought.   A few ways to personalize your invitations for your soon-to-be bridesmaids is to embed their name into it!

Simple and affordable ideas such as wine bottles or mugs with personalized “name” labels are a fun way to ask them and be sure to get them even more excited about your special day than they already are!  You can even add the wedding date!

Surprise!

Another beautiful and creative way to personalize your bridesmaid invitations is by getting crafty and creating lovely boxes or clutches with small gifts inside that are personal to each of your lovely bridesmaids!  It will really show you love them!

Secondly, make sure your gifts are also tied into your colour scheme of your wedding to help your bridesmaids get a feel of the theme of your celebration.   A beautiful example is by putting a flower of the same colour arrangement as your theme. This ties everything in simply and looks elegant all at the same time!  Not only do you want to make these invitations personal and match your vision for your special day but you also want it be something that they can use or wear. This makes your bridesmaid feel more involved in the wedding which makes for a very happy wedding party!

More great ideas are bracelets and necklaces that signify your friendship and show that you’ve gone above and beyond to have them by your side on the day that matters most.

At the end of the day, your bridesmaids are going to love being a part of your celebration regardless, but why not make the wedding planning a little more fun and exciting for everyone involved!  Let your creative juices flow and let your gifts symbolize a small part of your friendship with all of these wonderful girls!

Until next time…

March 2014 ~ Spring is "officially" here!

We're all about optimism and putting positive energy, thoughts and vibes out into the universe.  Ask anyone!

Many of you may agree that with Old Man Winter lingering around a little too long, it gets a bit difficult to see the light of Spring at the end of the tunnel!

Well we can definitely feel Spring "in the air" and we absolutely LOVE it!!     Can't wait to see this beautiful peony in my front yard!

For us this new season brings a renewed sense of drive.  It's hard keeping motivated during the winter months when all you want to do is get comfortable with a blanket and a hot cup of tea! Well now that we have seen some glimpses of spring... we are raring to tackle anything!

With that being said...we have a new addition to the Style & Elegance family!!!!

Meeting up for coffee one evening, we immediately hit it off - love when that happens!

Please welcome our wonderful intern Charlotte!!!!

We are soooo looking forward to working with her this year.  Her enthusiasm is evident after just one meeting!

Just like us... she is a lover of all things wedding:)  Can't go wrong there!

Lots in store for this team for 2014 and 2015!

Welcome to the team Charlotte!

We know we're a little behind on our March goals but it's been CRAZY in our world!!  We are on track for our goal to live a healthier life though!  Including these two delicious items to our daily routine has made an amazing difference in the energy level we have - AWESOME!

Reading up on the benefits of having water with lemon and grapefruit "bowls" inspired us to go for it!  We recommend you try it!  Read more at the above link.

Focusing to look at the positive everyday... here are a few words that inspire us.  Remember, each day is a new one - take advantage of it!

Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

Seeing Shades of Pink!

When you first think of "pink" you may picture a shade something along the lines of Hubba Bubba bubble gum.... at least that is what comes to mind for me!

Well that's not all that this wonderful colour is all about!!!

In the world of wedded bliss, the gloves come off and we can see that there is so much more to PINK than simply Hubba Bubba Bubble gum!

Rings

Why not start where it all begins...  the *sparkle*!  Whether it's a solid pink stone or just an accent, the shade gives your ring a certain unique touch that sets it apart from the traditional engagement ring.  Gentlemen you've got quite the task ahead of you!  There's so much to choose from.  You better know your lady well :)

Kitchener wedding planner  Kitchener wedding planner

Flowers

Now that we have the bling taken care of... let's talk about something we love.  The loveliness that is flowers!  Whether they be the romantic type or have that wow factor, they are a statement that is made starting right at the ceremony.  A favourite these days are the peony (*sigh* ... so romantic!).  Lush and beautiful it is perfect for that romantic celebration that will just take everyone's breath away.... such a feel-good choice for your florals!

Kitchener wedding planner

Now if you've chosen pink as part of your colour palette, it does not mean you have to saturate your whole day with it.  You can have it incorporated as a subtle detail with different textures.  For example your bouquets... a hint of pink will be enough to create the feeling you are hoping to achieve.  Such lovely combinations are shown below... don't rule anything out :)

We will be back with more pink wedding goodness...

For your "fix" until then.. check out our "Pinks and Pearls" inspiration board!

Enjoy!

~Trendy Mondays~How to include your pets at your wedding!

We are family! That is certainly the case for some people that love their pet so much they couldn’t imagine their big day without them. Of course it certainly adds a cute factor and the most popular attendant is a man’s best friend; a dog! Here are a few tips to make sure it all goes smoothly.

  • Confirm that pets are allowed - at your ceremony venue, you don’t want to make plans to include them only to be disappointed that pets are not permitted. Also make sure guests are at ease with your furry friend’s attendance in case of any phobias or allergies!
  • Know your pet! - This will help you decide their role from simply standing with the wedding party or having more responsibility like being a ring bearer during the ceremony. For more control, consider having them pulled in a wagon or on a short leash.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

  • Practice makes perfect - so drill the routine into them and reward them with praise and treats.
  • Hire a pet sitter who can act as your pet’s guide and ensure they are comfortable around your guests. They can make sure they are fed (not sneakily under the table) and them home after.
  • Dressed for the occasion – make sure they are comfortable and keep it simple, safe and easy. A tux is adorable but not if they want to rip it off! Get them accustomed before the actual event. Any flowers must be toxic free for your little four-legged friend!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

  • Inform your photographer so they can plan to capture those magic moments.
  • Be prepared to improvise as it may not go as rehearsed as pets also get stage fright and run their own path! Be happy with whatever happens and most importantly keep your pets safe and loved!

Is the thought of having your pet there on the big day too much?  Then pay homage to them in another way and include them in your engagement/wedding photo shoot, save the date, invitations or favours.

Other pets both small and large have been included in weddings too!
