Wedding Wednesdays ~ Spring 2014 ~ Couture Bridal from Designer Romona Keveza!

This New York based designer has delivered a spectacular show exuding femininity and celebrating women’s beauty and style throughout the eras.

A variety of dresses ranging from the whimsically magical gowns to the high end fashion statement pieces; she turns fantasy into a reality!

Taking inspiration from the last century Romona Keveza takes us on a journey through time presenting signature pieces resonant of various decades. Here are a few of our favourites.

Her opening piece was a blush silk organza ball gown inspired by Princess Alice who she said “bucked the trend” of wearing a traditional white gown. Will you stray from the expected white dress?

This gorgeous dress has intricate beading details reflective of the Old Hollywood glamour.  From front to back your eyes are drawn into the sweet heart line and mermaid cut to the buttoning from the mid back to below the buttocks.  Hugging the figure in all the right places with an aura of sexiness and elegance, this dress definitely gets the thumbs up from us!

Moving onto the rocking 1950’s this gown below is simply pretty and girly. This strapless classic flaring out from the waist is fun and flirty!  Here Keveza has played with textures opting for a bobbly material for the dress combined with a solid belt accented with a bow to break it up and it does so perfectly!

Her collection has an array of styles to suit all brides, with a range of silhouettes, neck, and waist lines. She was also bold with her choices of materials from taffeta, silk to tulle.

Something for everyone really!

Keveza’s finale piece was something she described as “haute couture,” 100% handmade. For this dress she used fabrications never used before in bridal gowns creating this amazing gold and silver sparkly delight. However, instead of being overstated and blingy, it somehow radiates a dreamy, nude and natural look.

For more of her designs, you can check out her Legends bridal collection, which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth a look. Here she combines two of our favourite things; both vintage inspiration and lace, creating a plethora of wedding gowns that will make any bride feel like a princess on her big day!

~Tip Tuesday~ Work with what you got!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningThere are millions and millions of wedding dresses to choose from out there and no doubt it can be one of the most overwhelming decisions of wedding planning for brides. So many things to consider!!! Silhouette, neckline, fabric, colour and detail.

Start simple and research what style you like and what suits YOU best, For example, princess style gowns flatter almost everyone, but mermaid cuts works best with taller brides.

Don’t feel like you need to spend thousands of dollars on a top designer dress....especially since you will only be wearing it for one day. A great option is to buy used and you can have it tailored to fit perfectly without having anyone know!

Be non-traditional.

Don’t feel as if you have to go with what has been done; wear what YOU want and what YOU like. If you feel white is not the colour for you, go for a shaded dress.  If you are not liking the length... gof for a shorter dress.

Keep in mind, this is YOUR day YOU pave the way!

A good rule to remember....  in ten years looking back on your wedding photos, will your dress look dated ? (remember the neon dresses from the eighties!)

Some "Shopping for the Dress" Pointers.....

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningBook an appointment- Most bridal shops need to know in advance so they can pair you with a Bridal consultant.

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningHave an idea in your head what you are looking for, but be open to options.  Veil, no veil, lace, beading, elegant or bold???? What you come in the salon with may not be what you leave with!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningStick to your budget.  You don't want to to be disappointed in the end when you have fallen in love with a dress that is going to break the bank!

We hope you are able to enjoy the Wedding Dress shopping experience.... the thing to remember... don't let it overwhelm you!  Enjoy the moment and you will find the perfect dress for you!

Happy Shopping ladies!!!!!

“I wanted timeless and ageless with something new about it. I don’t see the point of classic clothing that looks exactly like it did in every interpretation before. There must be an element of surprise, some sort of detail, something fresh and new about it.”

2013 Wedding Dress Trend....Bold Colour!

Something old... something new.... something borrowed.... something ....Red????

One of the new trends that has hit the runways for the Spring 2013 season.... is bold colour!!!!  Namely RED!!!!  You read right!  Shades of red running the gamut from scarlet to deep magenta graced the runways at Bridal Market.

We have been very busy here at Style & Elegance looking at all the new styles & creations unveiled by the top designers at New York's 2013 Bridal Fashion Week.  A common element that came through with designers was the focus on colour.

Traditionally associated with weddings in Asian cultures, red is making a bold statement here on the western fashion scene.

Whether you looking to take a fashion risk, want to go less traditional or you just can't resist the idea of a bright, bold colour... there are some great designs out there for Spring 2013 that you can choose from.

Have a look at some of Vera Wang's Collection of gowns the wowed the runway audiences at Bridal Fashion Week!

~ Enjoy! ~

The Original Wedding Soiree - Toronto, ON

What a weekend we had!

We had the opportunity to attend The Original Wedding Soiree at the One King West Hotel in downtown Toronto.

A fabulous event for us to catch up with some friends and to meet a lot of new ones!  We love networking in this industry!  It is such a pleasure to meet and chat with other wedding professionals that are just as passionate about the world of weddings as we are!

Wedding Show

The theme for this "swanky" affair was Paris in the 1920's.  The architectural ambiance of One King West was perfect.  Guests were treated to a red carpet reception complete with champagne compliments of One King West Hotel and swag bags courtesy of TheRingbearer.  Wow!

Some of the wedding professionals that we caught up with included Impact Entertainment (DJ's), Mimmo & Co. (photographers), Paleterra Custom Correspondences (Stationary), Sara Baig Designs (Wedding Stylists & Coordinators), Love Paper and Ink Stationary and Katherine Lima Cakes.  Just to name a few!

We also had the chance to attend the Couture Fashion Show featuring designers such as Claire Pettibone, Ines Di Santo and St. Pucchi.  The scene was fit for Paris in the 1920's.

Take a look at some of the photos we snapped at the fashion and let us know which one moves you!

Romantic Lace for your Wedding

Thanks to the Royal Wedding and Kate's beautiful choice for her bridal look, 2012 is all about sheers, lace, sleeves, illusion necklines, and lots of layering and detail.

We can see clearly that lace has caught on as a favourable trend in wedding gown design!  We personally LOVE lace and are just swooning over the designs that are out there!

For those wanting to achieve a romantic bridal look, you can choose to incorporate a subtle touch of lace, for example in a veil or go to the other extreme and have a full, top to bottom lace creation.

Here is a sampling of the "swoon-worthy" designs that will catch your attention!

We just LOVE it!

Fashion Inspired Wedding Cakes!

Here's another idea that all the brides out there can incorporate into their wedding day!  Wedding cakes inspired by their very own bridal fashion!

Ruffles, florals, drapes, patterns.... the possibilities  are endless!  It's just another element to your day that can tie in your overall theme.  The flow of all the details involved with your wedding is key to accomplishing your vision.

We had trouble deciding which appealed to us more - the cake or the dress!?!??!

Which inspired style appeals to you?

Golden Globes 2012 - Red Carpet Style

The annual walk on the Red Carpet at the 2012 Golden Globes was viewed by millions on January 15th (we know we are a bit late with this post but it's been busy around here!)

We are just in love with all the designer fashion that paraded past the cameras!  Trends in accessories, silohuettes and hairstyles are always topics of conversation at the water cooler the following  morning!

As always with the high profile award shows...  elements of inspiration for wedding gowns are drawn from the red carpet... it's a natural progression!  Check out what all the celebrities were wearing and see if a certain designer sparks your interest!

Golden Globes

~ Emma in Lanvin ~

The beautiful Emma Stone graced the red carpet in an understated, unique gown by Lanvin.  She did a fabulous job in the movie "The Help".  A must-see!

Golden Globes

~ Natalie Portman in Lanvin ~

Gorgeous new mom Natalie Portman is wearing a fuschia strapless gown by Lanvin.  Accenting her look were Jimmy Choo heels and Harry Winston jewellry!  Wow!

~ Julie Bowen in Reem Acra ~

This simple nude-coloured sweetheart gown resonated old Hollywood glamour.  Elegant and classic... thumbs up from us!!!

~ Paula Patton in Monique L'huillier ~

This Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol star walked the red carpet in a bold number!  A strapless, form fitting canary gown wowed the masses!  It's bold but it worked for her!

~ Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka ~

The "Queen" dazzled the cameras with her timeless taste.  We we drawn by the colour of the dress!  We love midnight blue!!!  Very elegant!

~ Kate Beckinsale in Roberto Cavalli ~

This Underworld: Awakening star chose a strapless, pale, floor-length gown with just enough sequin and chiffon to give it a romantic look.  Another thumbs up from us!

~ Berenice Bejo in Emilio Pucci ~

Again - we LOVE the colour of this gown!

Now for my favourite of then night!!!

~ Jessica Alba in Gucci ~

We absolutely LOVE this lavender strapless number Jessica Alba wore to the Globes.  So elegant and classy!

Hope you enjoyed some of the red carpet!

Breaking Dawn Wedding!

I never thought that I would indulge in the phenomenon of Twilight... but I recently finished all four books ..... in one week!  I absolutely loved them!!!!  Being the romantic that I am... I was immersed in this series so much that I would be up at a very early hour.... just to read some more!!!

I did watch the most recent movie - Breaking Dawn Part 1 in theatres and I have to say out of the four movies, it was the best one.  Of course I was interested in the much anticipated wedding of Edward Cullen & Bella Swan!  The setting was so soft and romantic!

Check out these gorgeous images below and be inspired!

Bella's Engagement Ring
