Theme Thursdays ~ Weddings in Uniform!

The majority of military weddings take place in military chapels or academy grounds. However, if you wish to have it elsewhere; you must inform your installation.

Like with any other venue required for your ceremony and reception, you have to book in advance and plan ahead.  Although no fee is charged, a donation is expected as a gesture of thanks.

Generally the flowers, candelabra and other décor are arranged by the Chapel but these rules vary across the country and some couples are able to make their own plans.

Traditionally, the bride, groom or both will dress in military uniform and although it’s not mandatory, it is customary for them to walk under the Arch of Sabers or Swords (dependant on the whether you are Army or Naval) after the ceremony. This ensures the newlyweds a safe passage to their new life together.

This memorable ceremony takes place outside the church or chapel consisting  of 6 to 8 officers with a head usher issuing the commands, starting with ‘Form Arch’ or ‘Center face’.  Detouring from tradition, it has become the norm for the last two officers to block the couple demanding they kiss before completing the walk. The use of the sword doesn’t stop there as the couple also use it to cut their wedding cake too!

Check out some of these gorgeous military couples on their big day!

*Melt my heart*

You know what....there's something about a man in uniform

 *Sigh*

Wedding Wednesdays ~ Spring 2014 ~ Couture Bridal from Designer Romona Keveza!

This New York based designer has delivered a spectacular show exuding femininity and celebrating women’s beauty and style throughout the eras.

A variety of dresses ranging from the whimsically magical gowns to the high end fashion statement pieces; she turns fantasy into a reality!

Taking inspiration from the last century Romona Keveza takes us on a journey through time presenting signature pieces resonant of various decades. Here are a few of our favourites.

Her opening piece was a blush silk organza ball gown inspired by Princess Alice who she said “bucked the trend” of wearing a traditional white gown. Will you stray from the expected white dress?

This gorgeous dress has intricate beading details reflective of the Old Hollywood glamour.  From front to back your eyes are drawn into the sweet heart line and mermaid cut to the buttoning from the mid back to below the buttocks.  Hugging the figure in all the right places with an aura of sexiness and elegance, this dress definitely gets the thumbs up from us!

Moving onto the rocking 1950’s this gown below is simply pretty and girly. This strapless classic flaring out from the waist is fun and flirty!  Here Keveza has played with textures opting for a bobbly material for the dress combined with a solid belt accented with a bow to break it up and it does so perfectly!

Her collection has an array of styles to suit all brides, with a range of silhouettes, neck, and waist lines. She was also bold with her choices of materials from taffeta, silk to tulle.

Something for everyone really!

Keveza’s finale piece was something she described as “haute couture,” 100% handmade. For this dress she used fabrications never used before in bridal gowns creating this amazing gold and silver sparkly delight. However, instead of being overstated and blingy, it somehow radiates a dreamy, nude and natural look.

For more of her designs, you can check out her Legends bridal collection, which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth a look. Here she combines two of our favourite things; both vintage inspiration and lace, creating a plethora of wedding gowns that will make any bride feel like a princess on her big day!

~Tip Tuesdays~ Choosing your bridal bouquet!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningYes we all have our favourite blooms and colours but is that enough to select your bouquet?

You will be carrying this as part of your outfit for most of the day so it deserves some special attention and consideration.

Where does one start to build this accessory?

Here are a few tips that will hopefully result in you creating your perfect bunch of floral beauties!

Know your budget- This is important to discuss earlier on so your florist can create and adapt a design to suit your financial capabilities.

Visual Inspiration give your florist an insight to what you want and discuss colour palette options. Consider your wedding theme and current trends you might want to incorporate.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning  Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Complement your dress - show your florist a picture of your wedding gown so you can reflect the details, style and shape but don’t steal the lime light from your dress by going over the top.

Colour - it is important to highlight the colours in your dress. Getting the right shades together with the right bloom is an art. Take swatches to your florist if possible.

Size and shape – believe it or not your frame dictates your bouquet to enhance your figure and dress. Petite brides should go with teardrop shaped bouquets or a small round posy to keep you in proportion. The taller bride should distract the attention from their height with a larger bouquet.

Tis the season – some flowers are not available all year round or are really expensive. Go with the seasonal flowers make it easier to source and less expensive.

Personalize – Maybe a flower that has meaning like the ones he brought you on your first date.  A family heirloom brooch, lace from an old gown or just add something different to reflect your personality. (remember it doesn’t all have to be floral!)

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Bridesmaid’s bouquets – consider coordinating it with the brides or a similar smaller version.  You can diversify it by contrasting the colours or how about a simple single stem?

 Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Holding the masterpiece – for a picture perfect posture it looks better in one hand below the hip and slightly away from your dress. (Never hold it at chest level!)

To toss or preserve – you can opt for the traditions of a bouquet toss or keep your flowers.

Whatever you choose, remember to keep a flow throughout your celebrations.  You don't want to have a feel about your reception that is disconnected.

You may need to have a second set of eyes to give you some feedback because we know that the process can become "blurry" and overwhelming after looking at it so long!  That's where a friend or wedding coordinator can offer their advice.  You may end up choosing something that you never thought you would!

Regardless, just enjoy the journey!

Happy Planning!

~Trendy Mondays~How to include your pets at your wedding!

We are family! That is certainly the case for some people that love their pet so much they couldn’t imagine their big day without them. Of course it certainly adds a cute factor and the most popular attendant is a man’s best friend; a dog! Here are a few tips to make sure it all goes smoothly.

  • Confirm that pets are allowed - at your ceremony venue, you don’t want to make plans to include them only to be disappointed that pets are not permitted. Also make sure guests are at ease with your furry friend’s attendance in case of any phobias or allergies!
  • Know your pet! - This will help you decide their role from simply standing with the wedding party or having more responsibility like being a ring bearer during the ceremony. For more control, consider having them pulled in a wagon or on a short leash.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

  • Practice makes perfect - so drill the routine into them and reward them with praise and treats.
  • Hire a pet sitter who can act as your pet’s guide and ensure they are comfortable around your guests. They can make sure they are fed (not sneakily under the table) and them home after.
  • Dressed for the occasion – make sure they are comfortable and keep it simple, safe and easy. A tux is adorable but not if they want to rip it off! Get them accustomed before the actual event. Any flowers must be toxic free for your little four-legged friend!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

  • Inform your photographer so they can plan to capture those magic moments.
  • Be prepared to improvise as it may not go as rehearsed as pets also get stage fright and run their own path! Be happy with whatever happens and most importantly keep your pets safe and loved!

Is the thought of having your pet there on the big day too much?  Then pay homage to them in another way and include them in your engagement/wedding photo shoot, save the date, invitations or favours.

Other pets both small and large have been included in weddings too!

~ Theme Thursdays ~ Keeping it low key!

Not everyone dreams of throwing a big wedding, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be everything they could have wished for.  For some couples getting married to the one they love is special enough without the grand gestures of an extravagant affair. Most low key weddings are intimate and include your closest friends and family in a small venue. What more do you need right? (Ok maybe some food, drinks and music) then all should be good!

We found these three real life low key weddings that looked amazing in more ways than one. It is evident from all the smiles in the pictures that the couples truly enjoyed their big day filled with happiness.

Offbeat bride brings you Kim and Greg’s garden party in Manhattan.

An outdoor ceremony for less than 60 guests in a neighborhood garden and Kim designed almost everything herself from her dress to décor.

Two paths lead to a central pagoda where the two joined to say their vows before a friend who was also a wedding officiant. They sealed the deal with a kiss before heading back down the aisle with the band played Greg’s favorite song. Then it was to a lounge for drinks and nibbles.

A RockNRollBride wedding from London, UK brings us inexpensive and cheerful from high street outfits to DIY flowers and a pub lunch for 20 guests.  The photography is gorgeous and makes the day looks way more expensive then it was!

Last but not least this couple’s sweet and simple family get together to eat burgers on the bride’s 30th birthday at the groom’s childhood home. This is certainly a small cozy wedding to remember from Glamour

~Trendy Mondays~ ‘Something new’ to carry down the aisle!

Say no to flower power and opt for something completely different!  With each bride wanting to add a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to their wedding, there are so many alternatives to choose from.  As beautiful as flowers are, they are not for everyone but some of these other “details” might just be down your ‘aisle’!

Bouquets have been replaced by many things that make a statement reflecting the bride’s tastes and personality. Check out some of the items that have made an appearance at weddings.

Parasols
A parasol can add elegance to the bride’s outfit, especially in satin, lace or silk. It is also practical too for an outdoor wedding to shade you from the sun or protect you from the rain!

Fans
How about a decorative fan to match your theme?

Candles
Light up with a candle bouquet for that romantic ambience.

Lanterns

Whether it be metal or paper, lanterns are a great alternative to the traditional floral bouquet.  Bring out your personality with this detail of your wedding.  It could even double as a part of the reception decor!  The bridesmaids place their lanterns on the head table and there you go - instant decor!

Books
Normally this would be the bible, but brides nowadays are going for their favourite books instead!

A plethora of ideas to choose from and the list doesn’t end here, anything goes!

Have fun with it!
