South Asian Wedding Love - Shermeen & Chris!

Oh my goodness  It has been a LONG time since we have blogged!  We are going to turn that around for 2017.. we promise!!!!  To start we wanted to share one of our weddings that was special to us as we have become really good friends with the bride & groom.  What could be better than that!!

We come across a wide range of personalities when it comes to our lovely S&E clients but when we got a phone call from our dear Shermeen, well let's just say that we were in for a ride!  Her positive personality, trusting and caring outlook on life in general was truly inspiring and infectious!  Looking for a full planning service, Shermeen & Chris needed assistance with every aspect of their wedding preparations.  We were more than happy to help!  From attending all vendor meetings, assisting with the bridal attire selection, coordinating out of town arrangements to brainstorming and packaging the wedding favours, Style & Elegance went above and beyond to make our clients' vision a reality. With the talented and skillful eye of Adnan Ansah Photography, the moments of Shermeen & Chris' celebrations were captured so beautifully.  Here's a sneak peek!

Happy Planning!

~Tip Tuesdays~ Choosing your bridal bouquet!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningYes we all have our favourite blooms and colours but is that enough to select your bouquet?

You will be carrying this as part of your outfit for most of the day so it deserves some special attention and consideration.

Where does one start to build this accessory?

Here are a few tips that will hopefully result in you creating your perfect bunch of floral beauties!

Know your budget- This is important to discuss earlier on so your florist can create and adapt a design to suit your financial capabilities.

Visual Inspiration give your florist an insight to what you want and discuss colour palette options. Consider your wedding theme and current trends you might want to incorporate.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning  Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Complement your dress - show your florist a picture of your wedding gown so you can reflect the details, style and shape but don’t steal the lime light from your dress by going over the top.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Colour - it is important to highlight the colours in your dress. Getting the right shades together with the right bloom is an art. Take swatches to your florist if possible.

Size and shape – believe it or not your frame dictates your bouquet to enhance your figure and dress. Petite brides should go with teardrop shaped bouquets or a small round posy to keep you in proportion. The taller bride should distract the attention from their height with a larger bouquet.

Tis the season – some flowers are not available all year round or are really expensive. Go with the seasonal flowers make it easier to source and less expensive.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Personalize – Maybe a flower that has meaning like the ones he brought you on your first date.  A family heirloom brooch, lace from an old gown or just add something different to reflect your personality. (remember it doesn’t all have to be floral!)

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Bridesmaid’s bouquets – consider coordinating it with the brides or a similar smaller version.  You can diversify it by contrasting the colours or how about a simple single stem?

 Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Holding the masterpiece – for a picture perfect posture it looks better in one hand below the hip and slightly away from your dress. (Never hold it at chest level!)

To toss or preserve – you can opt for the traditions of a bouquet toss or keep your flowers.

  Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Whatever you choose, remember to keep a flow throughout your celebrations.  You don't want to have a feel about your reception that is disconnected.

You may need to have a second set of eyes to give you some feedback because we know that the process can become "blurry" and overwhelming after looking at it so long!  That's where a friend or wedding coordinator can offer their advice.  You may end up choosing something that you never thought you would!

Regardless, just enjoy the journey!

Happy Planning!

Bold Colours

Blushes and pinks too pale for your liking then check out these stronger colours that some would consider risqué!

~Trendy Mondays~ ‘Something new’ to carry down the aisle!

Say no to flower power and opt for something completely different!  With each bride wanting to add a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to their wedding, there are so many alternatives to choose from.  As beautiful as flowers are, they are not for everyone but some of these other “details” might just be down your ‘aisle’!

Bouquets have been replaced by many things that make a statement reflecting the bride’s tastes and personality. Check out some of the items that have made an appearance at weddings.

Parasols
A parasol can add elegance to the bride’s outfit, especially in satin, lace or silk. It is also practical too for an outdoor wedding to shade you from the sun or protect you from the rain!

Fans
How about a decorative fan to match your theme?

Candles
Light up with a candle bouquet for that romantic ambience.

Lanterns

Whether it be metal or paper, lanterns are a great alternative to the traditional floral bouquet.  Bring out your personality with this detail of your wedding.  It could even double as a part of the reception decor!  The bridesmaids place their lanterns on the head table and there you go - instant decor!

Books
Normally this would be the bible, but brides nowadays are going for their favourite books instead!

A plethora of ideas to choose from and the list doesn’t end here, anything goes!

Have fun with it!

Gone are the days of plain, smooth frosting.  Eye-catching textures and dimension are taking this art form to a new level.

Check out these AH-mazing creations that definitely "take the cake"!

Which one would you like to satisfy your craving?  Let us know!

Style Wednesdays – Vintage Rings

You know how the saying goes: “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

A vintage engagement ring can cover all of the above acting as the ultimate four -in-one good-luck token for the bride to ensure a happy marriage.

Antique or vintage equates to old and perhaps you will be lucky enough to be given a beautiful family heirloom that has been kept in the family for generations. (Preferably with the mother’s blessings!)

It can be new but designed in the vintage style and it is definitely new to you when he pops the question and presents it! As a family heirloom it is essentially borrowed until you have to pass it on and last but not least something blue comes in gorgeous sapphire.

Genuine vintage diamond rings are rare, difficult to find and come in a combination of precious diamonds, stones, metals, age, period, and features.   As advised by Randor Jewellery Inc there are four main vintage diamond ring eras to consider:

  1. Victorian Era rings - in which the style was dictated by the queens, tend to have a serious design comprising of darker stones.
  2. Edwardian Era Vintage rings - tended to be more light and flexible in style. Platinum became a popular metal and diamonds and pearls were the most widely used gemstones.
  3. Art Nouveau Vintage rings - tended to have styles based on flowers with very geometric shapes
  4. Retro Vintage Era rings - tend to have less emphasis on the actual gemstone. Larger less precious gems were used in conjunction with more precious metals. This is largely considered the era where yellow gold became popular and widely used.

So for an alternative and unique ring, take a look at some of the ones we came across on Pinterest. Take a browse and find that special one for you. Happy shopping!

Love Love Love the details on this one below, that’s what I call old fashion bling!  Gorgeousness!!!!

These ones below are simply beautiful and elegant with floral clasps holding the stone giving it that delicate and pretty feel.  This is my favorite, I am speechless!

And finally for the something blue is the sapphire collection we found on ERAGEM. Here are some that caught our eye:

We hope we have inspired you!

~Friday Inspiration~ Anne of Green Gables Photo Shoot!

We immediately were head over heels and swooning over this * beautiful * photo shoot done by Jessica Zais Photography!  One of our most treasured + loved films has been captured in a romantic bridal shoot and we are JUST LOVING IT!

Anne of Green Gables has been one our favourite Canadian series since as long as we can remember.  The innocence of childhood and young love, finding out who you are and learning some very tough life lessons all through the eyes of a very young Anne Shirley.  Played by Canadian actress Megan Follows, this story has captured many a young heart and continues to be a inspiration!

This photoshoot was able to recreate scenes from the classic story that literally leap from the pages of the novel!  For those fans out there you will know what we mean when we mention.... The Lake of Shining Waters, White Way of Delight or the ever sweet term "Carrots"!

Take in some of these BEAUTIFUL images courtesy of Jessica Zais Photography and re-live the romantic love story of Gilbert + Anne (with an 'e').
