Cake Me Goodnight! ~ Charlotte's Favourite things ...

If you're trying to steer clear of being too traditional in your wedding ways, and want something different and modern, try adding an alternative idea to the "cake" part of the night!

After your delicious meal has been served and consumed by your hungry guests, everyone expects a cake to be served as dessert. Why not surprise your guests with something a little different?

Here are a few ideas to keep your originality flowing!

Cupcakes are turning into more of the popular idea to choose for dessert options, and can give your guests more of an option for flavour. Giving your guests selection always makes everyone happier and keeps the traditional wedding feel at bay.  From mini to large size, the possibilities are endless!

Cake pops are also another great idea to serve your guests to keep them interested and everything looking bright and fun!

Try cake trifles in glass jars for a beautiful modern take on your wedding cake. This elegant glass look helps keep the classy feel of a cake table with a contemporary twist!

Maybe try stepping out of the box even more with these awesome ideas!

Why not go a little "French" with some Macarons or Merengues - "mais oui?"

Or how about a little gourmet on the menu?

Like I said.. the possibilities are endless!!!

Keep Up The Happy Planning,
Charlotte

Afzia's Favorite Things! - Pi .. I mean Pie!

See what I did there?  Just a little humour for this Saturday morning:)

In honour of 3.14.15 or "National Pi Day" ... I thought I would share one of my favourite things...Pie!

For a little background on Pi...

"Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). It is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three digits of π"

This year adds to the quirky nature of honouring the day.. 3.1415 are the first five digits... therefore 1 and 5 fall perfectly this year as it is 2015!  Cool huh!

Back to the good stuff ... Doing what I do as a wedding planner, I'm asked to come up with creative ideas to enhance an event.  One of the cool things I've come across (which is also so yummy and delicious) is a Pie bar!

Different images are probably running through your mind... let me show you the possibilities!

From slices to minis, pops to jars, gourmet to traditional, the inspiration is endless.  Include this delicious idea as part of your wedding celebrations and it is SURE to be a hit!

Everybody needs a little sweetness in their life right!

Enjoy!

You're Invited!

Wondering how to design your wedding invitations to fit your style?

Look no further, we have some great suggestions here that won't break your bank!

Lace seems to be so popular now and has always had a very timeless feel to it, so why not incorporate it into your invites? Look at how elegant these look and don't cost a fortune! This is a simple DIY that you and your girlfriends can do on a rainy Sunday (IF you can ever find the time)...

Another great idea is to take your engagement photos and choose one or two of your favourites to make into your invitations so that everyone can feel, and quite literally see, the love!

Have a little extra time on your hands? Maybe have a smaller guest list? Then try doing this intricate and interactive invitation you can make at home! Look how adorable it is when you open it up! Nothing says tying-the-knot, than quite literally tying a knot!

All of these simple and personal ideas are easy to do or to suggest to a friend who is getting married.

All you need is a little time, a few great friends (don't forget to tell them how great they are) and maybe a little wine in the mix for them to help you make your wedding invitation dreams come true!

Until Next Time,

Charlotte

Getting Married Under the Stars: Outdoor Weddings!

Always wanted your dream to come true outdoors?  Love under the stars?  Magic under the bright beautiful skies? Us too! Just make sure you follow these guidelines to ensure that that dream really can become a reality.

First things first...Have a back-up plan! There is nothing worse than checking the weather forecast the week before and then finding out on your special day it decides to rain! Try having a few tents set-up somewhere nearby to make sure that in case the skies decide to open up that day, you and your guests will be saved! Trust me, they'll all thank you!

Another way to be cautious is to just plan for the worst! It is very common for a bride and groom to choose their special date 8 months to a year in advance. Unfortunately, there are no websites that can see the future so we have to just hope that day works out in your favour. But what we can do closer to the date, is be knowledgeable about all possible outcomes so no matter what, your day will still turn out accordingly to plan. Remember, expect the best, prepare for the worst.

Check the weather forecast as frequently as you can! Don't just try one website but try a few to make sure you are getting consistent information instead of just one weather guy flipping a coin! Even though things can change drastically, having an idea of the weather on your wedding day can help you with preparing for the outcome.

For your guests, you want to make sure that they are having just as much fun as you are, so make sure they are well taken care of! Plan to have restrooms, enough seating areas or tables and anything else that will help make their time more enjoyable. For example, if your outdoor wedding is going to be in the middle of Summer, make sure you provide hand-fans for your guests to make sure they can cool themselves down if they get too overheated.

Another way to make sure your guests are enjoying themselves is by ensuring that it your venue is easy to access. It is very common for women to wear heels to these kinds of events so you want to make sure that there is even ground for them to walk on so that no one is breaking any shoes! Try creating small stepping stones to help avoid this! Also, for some of your elderly family and friends, make sure that there are no major hills to climb up so that everyone can safely get to your wedding!

If your outdoor wedding is seeping into the nighttime, make sure that there is sufficient lighting for you and your guests to maneuver around your venue so that no one is tripping over themselves to get to the washrooms or to their seats. This is much more likely to happen if there is alcohol involved so make sure the area is well-lit.

Once all of this has been planned and avoided, lastly you want to remember to just have fun! Now that you're prepared for the worst, nothing can get in your way from living out your dream wedding with your loving family and friends.

Until Next Time...

Be Our Guest! ~

Want to remember all of the precious moments and beautiful people that made your wedding day so special?  A great way to start is by creating a guest book for everyone to contribute to!

Especially with larger groups of people attending, you want to be sure you have all of those little details documented that your guests will treasure just as much as you do.

If you are not much of a DIY bride then going with a simple guest book for your loved ones to write in is a simple and touching way for everyone to feel involved in your special day.  With these simple ideas you can always add something a little unique to yours by adding your names, initials, or wedding date on the front of the book so it gives the idea a little pizazz!

On the flip side, for all of those crafty and artsy brides out there, feel free to explore different ways for your guests to write down their magical moments.

A few ways to be more creative with this is by creating a Polaroid Booth!  This idea is intended for display throughout the night so that as you see your friends and family arrive, you can see the board build! Your guests can take a quick picture of themselves at your wedding and write their loving words on the back, creating a loving montage of their stay.

"Family & Friend Trees" are another wonderful idea is to minimize the amount of paper used but also creates a beautiful collage of everyone's name who attended. This is a simple idea and can be fun to create! Grab a friend one weekend and invite them over to help cut out the leaves with you as you both create the tree of love together!

Out of these few ideas just be sure to incorporate you and your loved one on the front or throughout. This is a way that you can not only remember your guests' stay but also how unique and special your wedding day really was!   Please don't forget...

Until Next Time...

The Life of the Party! ~ Wedding Games for your Special Day

Trying to think of a way to keep your guests entertained but don’t want to break your budget?

Cute wedding games are a great way to keep things lively!

With all of the food and mingling, your guests may feel a little weary after a long day of celebrating; but we can assure you that these low-key games will make sure your loved ones will have a blast!

Simple wedding games such as “The Shoe Game” are a great way to keep everyone entertained! This hilarious game is a wonderful way to let your guests in on a couple of harmless secrets between you and your beloved!

Simply place two chairs back-to-back in the middle of the dance floor so all of your friends and family can see. Remove one of your shoes and then trade with your spouse so that you are holding one of your own shoes and one of theirs.

Have one of your friends or family read a series of questions about your relationship and try and answer the best you can with either of the designated shoes! The outcomes are not only comical but they also can be surprising in only the best ways!

Another fun game to keep the excitement up is “I Spy”. This easy game consists of picture taking and staying on your toes which is sure to keep your guests up and at ‘em! Grab your camera or your phone and take pictures of the items on the list that has been given to you… simple things such as ‘find the best dancer’ or ‘the biggest smile’ make this game easy but also a funky way of getting people to mingle.

Regardless if there is a prize at the end or not, your guests will love being involved with you on your special day! Check out some more ideas on how to ramp up the fun at your reception....

How about a HUGE game of chess for that outdoor wedding!

Now this looks like sooo much fun!!!  Get your camera out for this one :)

For those of you who are not into the "physical activity"... there's also an option too!

Nothing like spending some quality time with your small or large wedding party to make your celebration that much more memorable!

Until next time!

Inspiration Fridays ~ White on White Weddings!

Does the thought of a white wedding make you cringe and think clinical and boring? I am all about colour and was skeptical at first but after looking at some inspirational boards I thought this is ‘all white!’ (Sorry couldn’t resist)

The truth is, done in the right way; a white themed wedding can be gorgeous.  Get the lighting, tones and textures spot-on and you can and will create a fairy tale like ambience.  I don’t think it should be 100% white as you will get odd hint of colour from your venue furniture and décor, so choose a location where it will all tie in together nicely.

This wedding board below screams out sophistication & elegance as well as encapsulating high fashion.  The hint of green is a nice way to break up the monotone white palette.

A combination of different whites and creams adds warmth especially when it is enhanced with good mood lighting.  A chandelier not only adds a great crystal white but reflects opulence and grandeur.

Many brides are also opting to share their white gown moment by also dressing their bridesmaids in white.  Don’t forget the small and big details from candle holders to doves, to the "getaway car" ....anything can be white!

Go for the "glitz & glam" look by adding some sparkles and really make that white wedding shine!

The Lit Chick blog delves into the world of white and below is a sample of some of the many shades available.

Who knew?!

Will it be an all-white wedding for you?

We've peaked your interest haven't we!

~ Theme Thursdays ~ Keeping it low key!

Not everyone dreams of throwing a big wedding, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be everything they could have wished for.  For some couples getting married to the one they love is special enough without the grand gestures of an extravagant affair. Most low key weddings are intimate and include your closest friends and family in a small venue. What more do you need right? (Ok maybe some food, drinks and music) then all should be good!

We found these three real life low key weddings that looked amazing in more ways than one. It is evident from all the smiles in the pictures that the couples truly enjoyed their big day filled with happiness.

Offbeat bride brings you Kim and Greg’s garden party in Manhattan.

An outdoor ceremony for less than 60 guests in a neighborhood garden and Kim designed almost everything herself from her dress to décor.

Two paths lead to a central pagoda where the two joined to say their vows before a friend who was also a wedding officiant. They sealed the deal with a kiss before heading back down the aisle with the band played Greg’s favorite song. Then it was to a lounge for drinks and nibbles.

A RockNRollBride wedding from London, UK brings us inexpensive and cheerful from high street outfits to DIY flowers and a pub lunch for 20 guests.  The photography is gorgeous and makes the day looks way more expensive then it was!

Last but not least this couple’s sweet and simple family get together to eat burgers on the bride’s 30th birthday at the groom’s childhood home. This is certainly a small cozy wedding to remember from Glamour

~Tip Tuesday~ Children at Weddings

Kitchener Wedding PlannerWhen deciding to invite children to your wedding it is important to make the decision early in your planning process. This not only allows you to make easier decisions about your big day but also allows questioning parents to make plans for child care that day. You also, need to consider if the wedding is in town, this makes it much easier for parents to not be offended or feel overwhelmed to make plans for the weekend.

A question that may arise when deciding on invitation details....... Is it proper etiquette to not invite children to your wedding?  It is totally acceptable to specify no children, especially if it is in the evening and a more formal event.

Another point to remember is that you need to ensure all your invitations are addressed properly. On the outside of the envelope, include the parents' names and then on the inside indicate the children’s name beneath the parents' names. If the child is older then 18 they should receive a separate invitation.

After the invitations are sent out, it would be a nice gesture to call all your friends and family with children and explain why your wedding is or isn’t including children. This is an effective approach especially if there is any confusion about the invitations.  Again, if done earlier in the planning process, it allows ample time for arrangements to be made for childcare if necessary.

If you are deciding to include children at your wedding reception it may be good idea to arrange a kid friendly menu for them to enjoy. Grilled Halibut with creamy lemon zest served over Jasmine Rice just may not appeal to the tiny wedding guest!

Kitchener Wedding Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Kitchener Wedding Planning

Also, to keep these little ones entertained during the reception, arranging activities at a kids table is a great idea and they are less likely to get bored and make an unwanted scene.  So many ways you can create something that is tailored to the not-so-adult guest!

~ Theme Thursdays ~ The Reception Lounge

The reception lounge is another trend predicted to be big in 2013.  It offers a space for guests to mingle, eat, kick back and relax. With a more informal feel, it provides the perfect setting for cocktails and finger food. You can create an ambience to suit your style; be adventurous and really get your guests to interact and make the night a memorable one. Be it indoors or outdoors there are so many designs to choose from. Why not break from the tradition of a sit down meal? At least you won’t have to deal with the stress of a seating chart. (We all know that’s a burden that we can do without!)

Here are some of our favourite lounge ideas taken from The Knot:

How about an outdoor mingling spot???

Whatever your style we're positive you will come up with an idea that you will be thrilled with!

Inspiration Fridays~ It’s a Paris Wedding!

Kitchener Wedding Planner PlanningParis is known to be the most romantic city in the world... so it only makes sense that couples want to capture the ambience and joyous feeling of love or ‘amour’ as the French would say.

Quaint little bistros & patisseries, cobblestone streets, the clinking of glasses and of course the most obvious icon of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, all add to the enormous amount of inspiration that can be drawn from this part of the world!  (We one day dream of going to the "City of Lights"...  *sigh*)

Other inspiring elements for a "Parisian" wedding would include things like....

....The fleur-de-lis, which is the flower lily motif, a royal and regal design dating back centuries

....Damask designs to add a more "baroque" feel to your wedding celebrations

The overall vibe you want to create is of elegance, refined artistry and reverence and we hope these inspiration boards are ‘le coup de foudre’ (Love at first sight!!)

This next one almost has a "black tie" feel to it!  Still has the Parisian vibe but with a little more umph!

~Trendy Mondays ~ DIY Wedding Favours

With all individual couples comes varying budgets and with the economy being what it is; DIY is becoming a popular way to save money or just an alternative quirky idea. There are an array of options out there and you can pretty much make anything yourself with basic materials. (When I say ‘yourself’ – I mean invite the girls over and bribe them with wine to start a mini factory line!)

DIY doesn’t have to spell disaster or tacky! Choosing the right thing to make and producing it with love makes all the difference. It can be beautiful and really show off your personality and when you get the great feedback from your guests, you will reap the rewards knowing that it was made with your own bare hands! (I know you can feel that glow inside already)

I have pulled together a selection that will hopefully tickle your fancy!

Sparklers!

Check out this interactive favor idea taken from Becoming the Mrs.  Have your guests see your night out with a spark by handing out sparklers as favors and pair it up with match boxes so they also have something to keep afterwards. You can personalize the favor by adding your own message which can easily been designed on your computer. This is a unique idea and presents lovely and fun photograph opportunities.
