April Love

March was a whirlwind!  We didn't even get a chance to post our "March Loves"!  We are now catching up and are looking forward to Spring!  Although... you wouldn't think it was anywhere near close with what I'm seeing outside the windows today!

Anyhow - positive thoughts!  Spring will be here soon enough :)

April Love.jpg

SCARVES & GLOVES – I’m proud to say these two things…. are my weakness!!!  (shhh…. they also take up quite a bit of closet space!)  If you were to take a look at my lovely collection, you would be inclined to ask… have you actually worn every single one????  My answer – close to it!!!  They make me feel good … so why not!

APPLE CRUMBLE PIE – Ever since I can remember, apple pie has been my comfort food of choice.  My “go-to”, my “oh my goodness, this is so good with a scoop of ice cream” sweet tooth craving.  What is your go-to, feel-good dessert creation?

DISNEY MOVIES – As soon as I had our first daughter, I knew that my future would be filled with endless Disney movies… and I couldn’t be happierJ  I still love them to this day!  My daughters are teenagers now but our love for the classic and new Disney films is never-ending.  You should ask me what we did when the Beauty & the Beast live action movie was released…. We were hardcore!!!

COZY PLACES – Comfort, relaxation, peace.  Three words that everyone should make time for in their busy lives. So very important to reconnect with yourself….to recharge.  Pick up a book, watch a movie, listen to some music in your favorite nook.  You will walk away feeling more relaxed and will be a better person for it.

KNITTING – One past time I learned (by no means am I an expert!), while pregnant with my first child, was knitting. I wanted to give something to my daughter that would be her comfort as she grew up.  Something that she could look back on and think about her childhood.  Hopefully it will be a piece of her past she can pass on her to own child one day!

~Trendy Mondays~How to include your pets at your wedding!

We are family! That is certainly the case for some people that love their pet so much they couldn’t imagine their big day without them. Of course it certainly adds a cute factor and the most popular attendant is a man’s best friend; a dog! Here are a few tips to make sure it all goes smoothly.

  • Confirm that pets are allowed - at your ceremony venue, you don’t want to make plans to include them only to be disappointed that pets are not permitted. Also make sure guests are at ease with your furry friend’s attendance in case of any phobias or allergies!
  • Know your pet! - This will help you decide their role from simply standing with the wedding party or having more responsibility like being a ring bearer during the ceremony. For more control, consider having them pulled in a wagon or on a short leash.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

  • Practice makes perfect - so drill the routine into them and reward them with praise and treats.
  • Hire a pet sitter who can act as your pet’s guide and ensure they are comfortable around your guests. They can make sure they are fed (not sneakily under the table) and them home after.
  • Dressed for the occasion – make sure they are comfortable and keep it simple, safe and easy. A tux is adorable but not if they want to rip it off! Get them accustomed before the actual event. Any flowers must be toxic free for your little four-legged friend!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

  • Inform your photographer so they can plan to capture those magic moments.
  • Be prepared to improvise as it may not go as rehearsed as pets also get stage fright and run their own path! Be happy with whatever happens and most importantly keep your pets safe and loved!

Is the thought of having your pet there on the big day too much?  Then pay homage to them in another way and include them in your engagement/wedding photo shoot, save the date, invitations or favours.

Other pets both small and large have been included in weddings too!

Inspiration Fridays – On trend with ‘something old’ - 1920s theme!

Do you love vintage and all the glam of the 1920’s? You are not alone as this popular theme is appearing at more weddings. With a remake of The Great Gatsby coming to our screens soon, many couples are looking to mirror the era and style for their big day. You will see the flappers and dapper grooms alongside the crystal decanters, whiskey and all that jazz!

The Art deco, jewellery adornments and feathers exuded decadence from the women and the men showed their sophistication with their suit jackets, waistcoats and bowler hats.

And for you Downton Abbey fans less roaring 20s and more classy garden tea parties…

Happy Planning Ladies!

~ Theme Thursdays ~ Keeping it low key!

Not everyone dreams of throwing a big wedding, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be everything they could have wished for.  For some couples getting married to the one they love is special enough without the grand gestures of an extravagant affair. Most low key weddings are intimate and include your closest friends and family in a small venue. What more do you need right? (Ok maybe some food, drinks and music) then all should be good!

We found these three real life low key weddings that looked amazing in more ways than one. It is evident from all the smiles in the pictures that the couples truly enjoyed their big day filled with happiness.

Offbeat bride brings you Kim and Greg’s garden party in Manhattan.

An outdoor ceremony for less than 60 guests in a neighborhood garden and Kim designed almost everything herself from her dress to décor.

Two paths lead to a central pagoda where the two joined to say their vows before a friend who was also a wedding officiant. They sealed the deal with a kiss before heading back down the aisle with the band played Greg’s favorite song. Then it was to a lounge for drinks and nibbles.

A RockNRollBride wedding from London, UK brings us inexpensive and cheerful from high street outfits to DIY flowers and a pub lunch for 20 guests.  The photography is gorgeous and makes the day looks way more expensive then it was!

Last but not least this couple’s sweet and simple family get together to eat burgers on the bride’s 30th birthday at the groom’s childhood home. This is certainly a small cozy wedding to remember from Glamour

Style Wednesdays ~ Bringing sexy back... Backless Wedding Gowns!

The backless dress dates back to the 1920’s with the purpose of exposing the wearer’s back, most commonly in evening gowns and wedding dresses of all lengths.  This is perfect for the bride who exudes sexiness and wants to look” hot” on her big day.

There are many types from the halter neck, spaghetti straps, capped sleeves, V-shape and completely backless with the scoop or plunging all the way to the buttocks.  Different styles will expose either the upper, middle, or lower back or even all.  The styling doesn’t stop there as lace, embroidery and all sorts of sparkles are added to complete the look.  Are you brave enough to bare “almost” all?  Here are some dresses that might inspire your inner goddess to show a little or a lot of skin.

How about this classic V-shape with ruffles, it just screams elegance.

~Trendy Mondays~ Food Trucks at your Wedding!

If you enjoyed our ‘Interactive Food Stations’ feature this will definitely be up your street!  Food trucks at weddings will be trending in 2013 as more couples opt for this budget savvy and unique catering idea to feed their guests.  Forget your stereotypical festival food on a chuck wagon, these food trucks are serving gourmet dishes to tantalize everybody’s taste buds!

Here are some things to consider when planning for this awesome idea!

Calculate number of guests per truck – Food trucks main purpose is ‘fast food’ but it will still take time for all your guests to get served.  Have at least one truck per 75 guests so no one goes hungry!  If you are considering this option for a late night treat, then you may only need one truck.  Not everyone is a "late night snack" kind of person.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Time of year – remember people will have to line up for their food so make sure it is in comfortable weather, not too hot or cold and definitely choose a food truck to compliment the climate.  For example you can’t go wrong with an ice cream truck in summer!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Seating – If you are having the food truck as your main reception lunch or dinner then perhaps consider devising a seating area for people to sit down and eat.  However, if you are looking at a more casual affair like an after party or cocktail hour style, then set it up in a way to encourage your guests to mingle with access to cutlery and napkins (provided by the food trucks).

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Match your theme – You want to make sure the truck fits in with the décor of your wedding.  So like everything else do your research and find one that suits you.  Small and quaint or large and extravagant or something in between, there are so many choices!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Menu – Have a varied selection of food and be as adventurous as you dare.  Food trucks will often take a fun approach on appetizers and create small bites.  You can get some high end dishes nowadays.

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

Last but not least....

Parking – This is probably the main concern but is not a deterrent for food truck lovers but do make sure a parking space is available and that the trucks are insured!

It’s fun, inexpensive, and suitable for formal or casual dining whilst supporting small local businesses! We’re sold on the idea, how about you?  Need convincing then check out these “Truckin’ treats” found in the GTA as featured in thestar.com Food and Wine segment.

On the other hand you can be more subtle with the theme through the use of the heart shape rather than the colour combined with the general dreamy fairy tale ambience.

This one is our personal favourite!

~Trendy Mondays~ Will you be my Bridesmaid?

One way to start off the wedding planning process is to pop the question and ask your "girls" if they would like to be a part of your journey!  I'm sure that you've probably already decided who those special girls will be (admit it ...some of you even knew before you became engaged!).  Whatever the case, you can approach asking them in some very unique and fun ways!

To start the juices flowing...here are some ideas that we've found in our travels!  Make it something they will never forget!

Our personal favourite...

Whichever way you decide to "pop the question", have some fun with it!  You will love the look on their faces!

Happy Planning Ladies!

Style Wednesdays ~ Give a girl the right shoes.....

We couldn't have said it better!  In the realm of weddings, shoes are very important! They can make or break the whole look of the bride!  Okay we might be exaggerating but the right pair of shoes can definitely complete your bridal look.

Here is one "rule of thumb" to follow:

Fancy shoes for a simple dress or simple shoes for an elaborate gown.  You don't want to over-do it with everything fancy or not have enough "umph" with everything from head to toe in simple mode.

By all means go for the fun and exciting option when choosing your shoes.  You must love the ones you choose and feel absolutely gorgeous with every step you take on your big day.

One important thing to remember is to always have a backup pair of shoes for later on in the evening when the party gets started.  By that time your feet will have been through the ringer.  You probably have already kicked off your heels and they are sitting under the head table!  The thought of putting them back on.....unthinkable!

Check out all this gorgeous goodness that could accompany your manicured toes!!!!  Whimsical to glamourous and all shades between...a fab pair of shoes is like the cherry on top!

Enjoy!

We love the polka dots!

Don't forget to pack that pair of comfy shoes!  Your feet will thank you!

~ Happy Planning! ~

Tip Tuesday ~ For the Groom!

As soon as you utter the words "engaged" - from that point on it seems to be ALL ABOUT THE BRIDE!!! Well today we're not going to talk about the "girls".  It's all about the "Groom + his boys" today!

Gentlemen, despite what you may hear, you are part of the wedding too.  You can be as involved as you want to be.  Here are a few things that you can be responsible for in the planning process, not just the engagement ring!

First of all, as a couple - choose the wedding date.  It could be something symbolic like the anniversary of your first date, or the day that you met for the first time.  Choose something special to the both of you!   You may need to consider "special guest" conflicts as well.  For those that you would really like to attend.  Try to stay away from holidays if you can... especially religious ones.  Which season you would like to have your wedding is just as important.  Weather can affect your wedding's style + location.  It can set the mood for the celebrations so you need to think carefully.

Second, you need to select a venue for your celebrations.  A lot of places get booked up very quickly so you need to make this one of your top "to-do" list items.  You may be quite surprised that you choose something that you never thought you would!  You need to consider whether you want the ceremony + reception to be in the same place or you are okay with separate locations.  How many guests you plan to have will definitely dictate where your celebrations will be!  Do you want a traditional venue or are you looking to get away from the normal choices and want a unique venue?

It's time to select your entourage!  Who is going to stand up with you and be part of your big day?  There are the usual suspects... brothers, close cousins, friends... and don't forget the bride's brother!  But before you make your decision, consider the size of the wedding and the person's ability to commit to the task of being a Groomsman.

Can he afford it?  Is he a gentleman?  Does he have the time?  Can you imagine your wedding without him?  May sound silly but you don't just want to choose someone to even up the count.

(Being the Groom is shaping up to be quite the job!!!!)

Now for the part where you can shine and fully take the reigns - choosing the Band/DJ.  When it comes to choosing a band for you reception, always make sure you are able to see + hear them play before you decide.   As a general tip, bands will be more costly than a DJ would so you need to know your preference.  A good DJ will arrive early to setup and make sure that his equipment is placed out of the way of the podium, not blocking the view of the head table and has been tested for sound quality.  You don't want any of that loud shrieking feedback! Some helpful hints to consider... interview 3-4 vendors, ask if the DJ is familiar with your venue, how much experience do they have, what is their attire for the event and clarify the number of hours they will be there.  Dear Groom - you have quite the job on your hands as this is the one element that can make or break the wedding reception!  No pressure though!

This is just a sampling of how the groom can participate in the wedding planning process.  A lot more than you thought huh!  We were just getting warmed up!

More to come gentlemen!

~ Inspiration Fridays ~ Purple Weddings!!

The colours you choose for your wedding will convey certain emotions, mood + tone.  Many couples choose their wedding colours without knowing their meaning and what kind of tone it/they will set for their day.

For this Inspiration Friday we are going to draw on one of our favorite colours - purple!  Such a luxurious colour, the use of dark versus light purple can convey two very different moods....

Darker shades of purple create a stronger, more sensual tone for the day.  Royalty and sophistication will eminate from your event!

....while lighter shades of purple are more romantic and delicate (our personal favourite ♥).  Giving off a softer feel to the whole day will hopefully put everyone in a more romantic mood! (not that they aren't already because they are there celebrating with you!)

With so many shades of purple to play with, the possibilities are endless.  You can achieve any ambience such as warm (Plum), fresh (Lilac), exotic (Violet), cute (Mauve), glamorous (Imperial Purple); you just need to find the shade & tone that suits your style + vision.

Combining an accent colour opens you up to SO MANY gorgeous wedding elements. You can apply the colour scheme with class, without over doing it.  Limit it to where it should be used from dresses, bouquets, décor, and even catering but definitely don’t have everything one solid colour.  Here are a few things to inspire you.

Let your imagination run wild!  Create the wedding of your dreams ladies!

Wedding Dreams Bridal Show - January 12-13, 2013

Better late than never!  We wanted to thank each and every bride + groom that stopped by to chat with us.  There were so many!  It was great hearing details of wedding planning that are already underway and what is yet to come.

It has been a busy week and a bit since the show but we still wanted to share our images of what the show was all about!

When brainstorming ideas for what our booth was going to look like, we received some inspiration from our good friends at Jodi Leigh Designs.  Thanks so much!

And the process begins..... the first thing that we did was to get out our No. 2 pencils and sketch out our vision... and here is what we came up with!

Kitchener Wedding Planner Planning

I think we hit the nail right on with this one!  We were very happy with the final result.  For those of you who know us, you know that we love being behind the camera so we took as many photos as we could (when we had a few seconds!) of this whirlwind of a weekend!

Enjoy everyone!!

Just Because....Day 15

It's the same routine... flip, flip, flip, bill, bill, pre-approved credit card, bill......and then you see it!  A handwritten envelope!  An actual stamp!  A familiar name in the corner! Slowly you open it... the anticipation of seeing a friendly note from a friend, a birthday card or an invitation to a wedding.  You can't explain why but it feels great!  For me personally, I LOVE getting mail.  That's one of the first questions  I ask when I get home each day.

All the technology and speed of communication in the 21st century have made the personal note a dying art.  I have tried to impress upon my daughters this dying art and it's working... out of the blue they will have the urge to send their grandparents or cousins a little note to say hello or thank you.  They have made someone's day better ..... mission accomplished I say.

Hope I've inspired you to send a little note to someone you care about, it will for sure brighten their day.  What's better than that?

~ Theme Thursdays ~ The Reception Lounge

The reception lounge is another trend predicted to be big in 2013.  It offers a space for guests to mingle, eat, kick back and relax. With a more informal feel, it provides the perfect setting for cocktails and finger food. You can create an ambience to suit your style; be adventurous and really get your guests to interact and make the night a memorable one. Be it indoors or outdoors there are so many designs to choose from. Why not break from the tradition of a sit down meal? At least you won’t have to deal with the stress of a seating chart. (We all know that’s a burden that we can do without!)

Here are some of our favourite lounge ideas taken from The Knot:

How about an outdoor mingling spot???

Whatever your style we're positive you will come up with an idea that you will be thrilled with!

Happy Planning Ladies!
