~Trendy Mondays~ ‘Something new’ to carry down the aisle!

Say no to flower power and opt for something completely different!  With each bride wanting to add a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to their wedding, there are so many alternatives to choose from.  As beautiful as flowers are, they are not for everyone but some of these other “details” might just be down your ‘aisle’!

Bouquets have been replaced by many things that make a statement reflecting the bride’s tastes and personality. Check out some of the items that have made an appearance at weddings.

A parasol can add elegance to the bride’s outfit, especially in satin, lace or silk. It is also practical too for an outdoor wedding to shade you from the sun or protect you from the rain!

How about a decorative fan to match your theme?

Light up with a candle bouquet for that romantic ambience.

Whether it be metal or paper, lanterns are a great alternative to the traditional floral bouquet.  Bring out your personality with this detail of your wedding.  It could even double as a part of the reception decor!  The bridesmaids place their lanterns on the head table and there you go - instant decor!

Normally this would be the bible, but brides nowadays are going for their favourite books instead!

A plethora of ideas to choose from and the list doesn’t end here, anything goes!

Have fun with it!

IIFA Fever hits Toronto !!!!!!

The International Indian Film Academy is bringing its star-studded Awards Gala to North America for the very first time!  The top names of the Bollywood industry will be converging on the city’s centre.  Consider this the equivalent to Hollywood's Oscars!

For those of you who don’t know what IIFA is all about well, in a nutshell, it is a global showcase of Indian cinema.  The IIFA Weekend and Awards is a celebration of Indian Cinema consisting of fun-filled activities that brings the fans close to their favorite stars.  The highlight of the Weekend is the IIFA Awards Ceremony that honours the best of Indian cinema.

Wow!  It is easy to believe that the thousands of available tickets that went on sale, sold out in a mere 10 minutes!  An estimated 22,000 fans will be packed into the Rogers Centre come Saturday evening and will be entertained to the fullest!

Saif Ali Khan, Mallika Sherawat, Sonu Nigam, Preity Zinta, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Dharmendra, Karan Johar, Kabir Bedi, Hema Malini, Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Javed Jaffrey are just some of the Bollywood stars  that will set foot in Toronto.  But by far the biggest attraction will be the “King of Bollywood” himself – Shah Rukh Khan.

I know my daughter is a HUGE fan of “King Khan” and so desperately wanted to be a part of the festivities – but that plan didn’t materialize for us.  We will be watching the star-studded show come Saturday evening along with millions of other viewers!

With events already in motion in and around the Greater Toronto area, there is a definite “buzz” in the air.  Here is a run-down of what’s happening where!

June 24-26

IIFA Film Festival

IIFA-nominated movies from 2011 as well as years past are screened at various theatres, including the Coliseum Mississauga, Cineplex Odeon Sheppard, Silvercity Brampton and Cineplex Odeon First Markham Place.

June 24

IIFA ROCKS fashion show at Ricoh Coliseum, Toronto, ON (6:30 p.m.)

Hosted by Indian movie personality Saif Ali Khan, this show features a musical performance by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and international models displaying designs from India and Canada

June 25

IIFA Workshop: Music — Bringing Cinema Alive (11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.)

In this professional seminar, speakers Vishal Bhardwaj and the trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy offer insights into writing music for Indian cinema. The event will culminate with an interactive jam session where the composers and audience members create a live track.

Samsara: Feel the Flow in Toronto (2 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.) Taking place in the shadow of the Rogers Centre — where the IIFA gala will be held later in the day — this free arts festival will feature live music performances, including an Indo-Brazilian drum line, as well as dancing and a fashion show. The event will finish with the arrival of Indian film stars on the "green carpet" for the IIFA ceremony.

IIFA awards ceremony at the Rogers Centre, Toronto, ON (8 p.m.)

This is it, the glitzy, star-studded gala where India's biggest cinema stars will be celebrated with hardware.

Happy Star-Gazing Everyone!!!!!

Royal Wedding Countdown!!!!

Everything is about the Royal Wedding!!!  I love it!

William & Kate have captured the hearts and attention of so many people and they will all be watching come Friday as they begin their journey together.

Second in line to the throne - Prince William has grown up in the public eye and now will be moving on to the next stage of his life in the same fashion.

Which wedding designer Kate chose to create her gown will be a focal point for many women!  Including me!

The "Princess -to-be's" fashion sense has created a following of sorts... for example her blue Issa dress in which she announced her engagement to Prince William, sold out within hours of the images being released!  Wow!

I know where I will be come Friday morning - do you?  If you are still looking for someplace to enjoy the wedding of the century, check out the following for some options!

Here is how the day will unfold on the small screen!

Friday, April 29

CTV’s William and Kate: The Royal Wedding starts at 3 a.m., with hosts Lloyd Robertson and, from Buckingham Palace, Lisa LaFlamme, alongside royal biographer Christopher Warwick, royal expert Victoria Arbiter and comedian Tracey Ullman (simulcast on CP24, CTV News Network and at www.TheRoyals.ca).

Global’s Wills & Kate: The Royal Wedding starts at 4 a.m. with Global National’s Dawna Friesen and ET Canada’s Cheryl Hickey.

Heather Hiscock kicks things off at 2 a.m. on CBC and CBC News Network. Peter Mansbridge will join two hours before the 6 a.m. wedding ceremony.

BBC Canada and E! have live coverage as well, both beginning at 4 a.m.

After the rice is thrown, Marilyn Denis hosts her own reception with Scott Thompson as QEII (CTV, 10 a.m.). LaFlamme and the rest of the royal wedding broadcast team are back with live hits from London, highlights and post-wedding updates (CTV, noon to 3 p.m.; 7 to 9 p.m.)

E! dissects the day (and maybe some ill-advised hat choices?) in Will and Kate: Road to the Altar (9 p.m.) and Fashion Police: Royal Wedding (10 p.m.).

For anyone who didn’t get up before the crack of dawn to watch Kate walk down the aisle, BBC Canada is re-airing the big event, starting at 10 a.m. William and Kate: The Movie and A Tale of Two Princesses follow (4 p.m. and 6 p.m.).

~ Enjoy the Celebrations Everyone! ~

Wedding and Event Co-ordination!I am so happy to share this with you as this has been my dream for as long as I can remember.

I have always had a passion for Weddings. The happiness surrounding the day, the little details that reflect your style. Knowing that two people are about to begin their lives as one and being able to share in that first step gives me great joy.

My role as a Certified Wedding Planner will be to offer my knowledge, organizational skills, creativity and professionalism to your special day. When the opportunity presented itself to complete a Certification course through the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada (WPIC), it reaffirmed my desire to pursue my dream. Since planning and organizing have always come naturally to me, it only made sense that this would be the perfect way to utilize my skills doing something that I loved.

Gaining an understanding of what my clients' needs and desires are as well as the attention to details are of utmost importance to me and are essential in pulling your event together. The special touches are what makes your wedding day yours.

No matter what size of event you are intending to have, Style & Elegance will work with you to create something memorable for you and all your guests.
